Our poviders at Florida Hospital North Pinellas Surgical Institute has a vast amount of experience and skill in surgically addressing endocrine tumors, nodules and other malignant abnormalities of the thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal glands, while Dr. Kotak routinely provides surgical interventions for benign endocrine conditions. Understanding how few practitioners specialize in endocrine surgery, residents of the Tarpon Springs and Tampa Bay metro area are fortunate to have two such highly skilled physicians readily accessible as part of the Florida Hospital system.

Cancerous growths, benign goiters and hyperthyroidism are all commonly addressed via the removal of part or all of the thyroid gland in a partial or total thyroidectomy procedure. If only a partial thyroidectomy is performed, it is possible that the patient will have a normally functioning thyroid following surgery – but if the entire gland is removed, that person will require hormone replacement medication for the rest of their lifetime.

Dr. Kotak have ample experience in conventional and minimally invasive parathyroidectomy procedures to remove one or more of the four parathyroid glands. This procedure is typically used to remove benign and (rarely) malignant tumors called parathyroid adenomas when other, more conservative treatments have proven ineffective in reducing calcium levels or a complication related to hyperparathyroidism has developed.  Occasionally, a part of a parathyroid gland may be moved to some other location in the patient’s neck or arm to enable continued functioning of the parathyroid.

If you have been diagnosed with an endocrine condition such as hyperthyroidism or hyperparathyroidism, you may be referred to our physicians for advanced diagnostics and surgical treatment.
