Nipple- and skin-sparing mastectomy

In this revolutionary procedure, the surgeon removes the underlying breast tissue while leaving the entire envelope of skin, including the nipple areola, intact. Breast reconstruction can then immediately be performed to provide the best cosmetic results. Our providers can perform nipple- and skin-sparing mastectomies that ensure the most effective cancer treatment for patients in whom the procedure is appropriate. Specifically, women undergoing a prophylactic mastectomy or those who have a small cancerous growth or non-invasive ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) that is well isolated from the nipple may be good candidates.
