At Florida Hospital North Pinellas Surgical Institute, our surgeons have substantial experience performing both traditional “open” and minimally invasive, laparoscopic cholecystectomy procedures including advanced, single-incision laparoscopic cholecystectomy to remove the gall bladder. This operation is commonly required for patients who have symptomatic gall stones or stones that are blocking a bile duct. Read about gall bladder conditions we treat here.

Patients who have not had prior abdominal surgery, who are not obese and who don’t have a bleeding disorder may be good candidates for the laparoscopic method of gall bladder surgery.  Get more information on this procedure by calling us at 727.270.9927 or arrange for a surgical consult by filling out this online appointment request form.

Advantages of Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy

  • Smaller incision
  • Less post-operative pain
  • Quicker recovery time
  • Quicker discharge from the hospital

About Single-Incision Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy

This is a fairly new surgical technique that is being widely used to treat patients with gallstones, chronic cholecystitis and obstructive jaundice resulting from a blockage. By reducing the number of “ports” through which the surgeon operates, this surgery further minimizes trauma at the incision site with equivalent advantages to those afforded by regular laparoscopic cholecystectomy in terms of patient outcomes.
