Types of Lung Surgery Performed by Dr. Astra

Bleb resection – removal of air pockets from the lung surface that are associated with COPD and emphysema

Decortications– removal of a fibrous layer covering the lung surface, chest wall and diaphragm that is restricting lung expansion

Pneumonectomy– removal of a lung in its entirety

Lobectomy or bilobectomy– removal of one or more lobes of the lung where cancer has been detected

Sleeve lobectomy– removal of a lobe and a portion of the attached airway (bronchus)

Wedge resection– removal of a piece of lung for purposes of diagnosing or excising a small cancerous tumor along with a portion of tissue surrounding it

Segmentectomy– removal of a portion of a lobe
